ABOUT ME
Jennie O'Grady, MSc
Speech and Language Therapist
I'm a specialist speech and language therapist supporting children and families in Tokyo, Japan. Having completed my MSc in London, I have worked across both cities at schools and in home settings providing assessment, 1:1 and group therapy, staff and parent training.
Working with neurodiverse children and teens is my passion. I use child-centred approaches to offer meaningful and motivating interactions to my clients where they are understood and their contributions valued.
I work closely in collaboration with caregivers, educators and play partners to ensure the child feels safe, connected and ultimately, that they belong.
MY PHILOSOPHY
Safe - Connected - Belonging
Children with communication differences are children first. I use evidence-based therapy infused with innovation and fun to ensure that children can access the supports they need to feel safe and understood as well as share their ideas, interests and experiences to connect with others and know they belong.
Safe
Only when we feel safe can we engage, trust and learn. We reduce or remove stressors and respect sensory preferences in environments, activities and relationships. We offer the child the tools, language and activities they need to feel regulated.
Connected
Communication is more than just words. We provide consistent access to preferred communication styles for sharing ideas, experiences and perspectives. Whether that's simply dancing together, retelling holidays through building blocks or making photo diaries we ensure the child's method of expression is validated
Belonging
We ensure the child is valued and has opportunity to add value. We educate peers and adults to foster curiousity without judgement so the child can be themselves without masking. We offer genuine opportunities for the child to build self and social confidence whether using art, tabletop role-play or the great outdoors they can explore their place in the social environment.
